Your first visit to us may seem overwhelming. But don’t worry—we’ll work through it with you. Below is a list of things to expect and prepare for ahead of your visit.
The first time you bring a new pet to us, we will gather information about your pet’s background, health, diet and observations you have made. We will take the time to address all of your questions and concerns. Next, we will examine your pet from nose-to-tail, looking for things like heart murmurs, ear infections, parasites, etc.
Before Your First Appointment
- Request an appointment in one of three ways:
- Call us, OR
- Use your PetDesk app, OR
- Use our website by clicking here.
- Assemble and be sure to bring all the proper items with you:
- Your pet’s adoption or purchase records.
- Any existing medical history. (We can help you get it from your former vet clinic if you need us to.)
- A list of current medications and supplements.
- Current feeding schedule and the brand of food you use.
- A list of questions you have for your veterinarian.
- Collect any necessary stool or urine samples, if requested.
- If you’re bringing in your dog, be sure he or she is accustomed to being on a short leash. If you’re bringing a cat, be sure to have an appropriate carrier.
- Feel free to bring your pet’s favorite treats to keep them happy and distracted!
Appointment Policies
We prefer to work with you by appointment so that we can remain fully dedicated to you and your pet’s needs. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your pet’s appointment for check-in. If you have not filled out all relevant patient forms yet, plan to arrive 20 minutes ahead of your appointment.
Please call ahead if you are running late, as other appointments may be impacted. If you will not be able to make your appointment, we ask that you give us at least 4 hours’ notice, so that your appointment slot can be given to another pet in need. We will require deposits for repeated no-shows. Thank you for your understanding.
Work-In Appointments
We will take walk-ins only if there is availability. Please be prepared to wait in these situations. But it is always best to call ahead, as we can give you a better idea of when a slot will open up, or put you on a waiting list. Please know that there is no guarantee of getting an appointment on the same day.
Emergencies
Emergencies during our operating hours are always prioritized if we have doctors available to provide timely, adequate care. If we have too many urgent cases in front of you, or if your pet will require after-hours care, we may refer you to the nearest emergency hospital, as your pet’s care is the top priority.
As with all non-scheduled visits where staff and resources are impacted, work-in fees may apply.
Feel free to call or text us here at Buda Veterinary Care at 737-283-2838 anytime during normal operating hours if you have questions, and our friendly Client Care Representatives would be happy to help!
