Buda Veterinary Care (“BVC”), is a locally-owned and operated veterinary practice and animal hospital, caring for the medical needs—both preventative and urgent—of our community’s dogs and cats. We treat pets through the entirety of their life’s journey—starting with puppies and kittens and through their golden years. Our uncompromising focus is on elevating their quality of life, with unrushed, educational and compassionate visits. Some of our most common services include wellness exams, spays & neuters, dental care, allergy relief, urgent care, emergency services, diagnostics, senior care, and a broad list of surgical procedures.

Our brand new animal hospital is opening to the public in December 2024, to serve the families of Buda, Kyle, South Austin, Creedmor, Driftwood, Mountain City and Niederwald. BVC is a 6,500 square foot, state-of-the-art pet care facility. We’ve used this ground-up opportunity to apply all the lessons we’ve learned over many years, to execute facility features that previous buildings restricted, and to include the most advanced technologies available. Check out our hospital tour page to see all the cool new features inside and out!

We are located at 835 Main Street in downtown Buda, Texas, just 1 mile west of S IH-35 and right next to Bradfield Village Park.

The Team
For Gold-Hearted Pets Our building may be new, but our staff is not. BVC’s medical team is led by Dr. Sandra Ontiveros (referred to by her colleagues and clients as “Dr. O”), who graduated from Texas A&M with her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2004, and has been in full time practice in Austin for over 20 years. Along with Dr. O, we have assembled a tenured team of veterinary medical and support professionals to ensure your pet is being seen and treated by the industry’s very best! As our client base grows, our staff will grow with it—so we will have regular updates on new team members as it happens!
What Love Deserves
A cat's paw rests delicately on two human hands, stacked palm-down on a light wooden surface. This layered effect captures a serene moment of trust that might be observed by a caring vet during a gentle examination.

Our Core Values

Our team of people have had many years to create, test and apply the very best practices in veterinary medicine. Here’s what’s most important to us:

Education

It’s not easy making time for your pet’s needs. But when you must, you should expect high value from the veterinary professionals you pay. Key to our mission is to ensure you’re well-informed about your pet’s health outlook and the available treatment options. Pet parents are better equipped to make critical health decisions for their pet, with confidence, when we have done our part to educate them. We’re all on this lifelong journey together!

Trust & Compassion

Trust should be earned, through our actions in the care of your pet, and the way in which we communicate with you. Veterinarians take an oath to protect animal health, prevent suffering and advance their medical knowledge. For us, that starts with treating your pets as if they were our own, with compassion, dignity and medical scrutiny.

High Quality Medicine

There are many variations in veterinary care standards out there. We believe in quality over quantity, with unrushed 40-minute appointments that are thorough, communicative and dare we say it, pleasant. Our patients receive the focus they need for a proper diagnosis, there’s more time to improve communication and relationships, and our clients leave the building with peace of mind. And with our brand new, state-of-the-art medical equipment and diagnostic tools, you can be assured we are providing your furry loved one the very best chance at a healthy life.

Low Stress Visits

BVC will be the only Fear Free® certified practice in all of Buda and Kyle! A hospital-wide certification in Fear Free® means our entire staff has completed compulsory training on how to keep your pet as calm and safe as possible while visiting us, and we’ll be required to keep our training current in order to maintain our certification. Animals are at their best when they feel at ease. Fear Free® offers science-based, behavior-led strategies to prevent and reduce fear, anxiety, and stress for pets. At Buda Veterinary Care, we’ll be utilizing a host of time-tested techniques, such as the use of room pheromone diffusers, calming music, non-slip table surfaces, pre-rooming nervous pets (especially cats!), safer holding, and many other creative protocols. We even built separate cat and dog entrances, along with isolated exams rooms, to alleviate feline stress caused by their proximity to dogs.

Client Care

And of course, let’s not forget about the humans. One of our guiding principles is our focus on exemplary client care. Compassion and professionalism are top-down pillars of our focus, and that includes everything from our bedside manner, to the quality of medical advice and education, to the smile when you walk in. And when we have the pleasure of your company, you can expect creature comforts like free wifi, a coffee, soft drink and filtered water bar, comfortable seating everywhere, and voluntary technologies that expedite conveniences like appointment reminders, pet records, text communications, and payments. And last but not least, we actually want to talk to you! When you call, we’re not going to send you into the abyss with an endless call tree. “Hello, and welcome to Buda Veterinary Care! How may we help you?”
